What's blooming in your garden today?

pippi21(Z7 Silver Spring, Md.)June 1, 2010

Went out to get the morning newspaper and see that the Malva Zebrina that I wintersowed has its first bloom. Johnny jump-ups, dwarf candytuft, as well as Baby blue eyes. There were all from WS project. I think I'm hooked on wintesowing. It does work! Also blooming is a coneflower that Huggergirl in Indiana sent me. Remembering the hugh chunk of coreopsis my daughter gave me and I made 3 plants out of it; well they are blooming. The shasta daisies in bed by garage will be busting out of blooms in another hot day. Batchelor buttons that were WS are almost ready to bloom. I'm a happy camper!

Here the rose campion are making a beautiful show, shasta daisies - English roses - I have several pink Egalantyne and an apricot, Canadian climbers John Cabot and William Baffin, Morden Centennial and Morden Fireglow - several blooms of Tropicana and a few of the ending first flush on rugosa Blanc Double de Coubert (that is close maybe not quite the right name - LOL).

The asiatic lilies are popping - a big stand of early Orange Pixie next to the green threadleaf japanese maple is lovely.

I have some clematis as well - this year they are not that showy after several seasons of neglect. I love the c. drumandii with those bell flowers nodding next to the roses.

Still have double mock orange going and some of the blue tall spiderwort - I banished the shorter magenta stuff that is wonderful for a few weeks now, but absolutely a take-over thug that had to go.

I'll post a picture later (becuase I love the color combinations :) but right now I have Rose Campion, Campanula Glomerta, dwarf shasta daisys and white salvia blooming together and it looks awesome!

In the same bed my Huskers Red Penstemon, Sundrops, Nepta (catmint) and ajuga are also making a nice color combination right now. The threadleaf coreopsis is starting to bloom and the day lilies are almost ready to pop open.

In the back yard bed, my iceberg shrub rose is in full bloom along with the cranesbill geranium and a minnie pearl white phlox I just bought.

Lots going on here. THe TB iris have just mostly finished and the Siberian Iris and Roses are in full bloom. The very first of the asiatic lilies opened, which means the bulb lilies will continue on now thru the summer. Lots of annuals blooming everywhere.
