I'm in 10a. Kathy Crowley says they won't bloom even this far south, maybe not even in Miami, but I'm determined to try. Just want to know if anyone else has been able to grow them and how far south you are.
I'm in Broward and I've had the pink one in the ground for over 3 years. This year the stalks grew over 6 ft but I've never had blooms.Does this help at all?
Had the pink in Cape Coral for a few years but it never bloomed here either.
Well slap me silly but I do have 3 pink stalks! I'll take photos when they flower. I know someone told me they had to be in the ground for 3 years before they bloomed but I'm betting it's been at least 5.
Ya never know.
So the answer is yes!
Coffeemom, that is so pretty. I am happy for you that it bloomed.
Boy, I sure do love anything pink. That is lovely! Thank you for sharing.

That is beautiful coffeemom! Where did you find your pink torch ginger? Ebay?
Actually it was from a trade done on the GW Exchange around 2006. It was with someone with a greenhouse and a lot of tropicals. I haven't seen her name in years.
I probably wasted 2 years growing it in a pot and then it took another 4 yrs+ in the ground before blooming.
I think this post encouraged it.
I'm pretty sure I know who the gw member you are talking about. I haven't seen her around either. She was on DG for a while too.
Hope she is doing okay. Miss her expertise and cool/unusual plant posts.
I found some on ebay from a seller I purchased from before, I am gonna try my luck here. I can plant them in the dirt floor of the gh.
