Has this disappeared? I've tried the box stores and can't find my workhorse fertilizer. Will try Ace and K mart later today. Any other suggestions?
Isn't Miracle Gro the same mix as Peters? I use 12-6-8 on everything.
I guess this answers my question. It's been gone since 07?
I was looking for balanced fertilizer for my orchids and was going by the Motes book on Orchid growing.
Otherwise I usually use 8-2-10 palm special in the garden.
Here is a link that might be useful: It's gone
Miracle gro does not contain the minor nutrients that plants need. According to the people that use it for hydroponics it has to be amended. For each 2.5 gal of water;
2 tsp Miracle Gro 12-4-8
2 tsp Earth Juice Microblast
1 tsp Silica Blast
1/2 tsp Plaster of Paris (gypsum)
Or you can use; (formerly known as Peters General Purpose)
Jack's Classic 20-20-20 General Purpose plant food is made by J.R. Peters. It is a balanced, water soluble fertilizer.
Jack's Classic contains micro nutrients needed by African Violets. It contains 17.9% urea which is in a form that will not harm plants.
Lou - I used to use Miracle Gro up north for our house plants. Twice a year I mixed it with water and went around the house with a pump sprayer. Of course, up north there was no scale or spider mites. In Florida, I used it for the first year on my patio plants and the bugs loved it so much that I lost almost everyone of them and had to start over. Now, the entire patio plant collection - some 30 pots with palms, Pepperomia, bromeliads, calathea, and agalonema - get regular 12-6-8 once a year.
Thanks Lou. I'll have to track down Jacks Classic. I can pick up his orchid fertilizer later this month at the orchid show.
It looks like you can still get Peters online, do a Google search. This is what I found:
