Why would my Hibiscus change colors?

oakleyokJune 1, 2010

This is crazy. I've been buying my Hibiscus from the same store for years now and the flowers on them never change.

The one I bought this year (Hardy Hibiscus) was full of the most beautiful light pink flowers with dark pink centers. That's why I bought them, for the color.

Now they are red. Just plain old red.

Why would it do this? Me no likey. :(

Could the pink have been grafted onto the red flowering hibiscus? Maybe the pink died off and and the red is now sprouting up??

I don't know if they graft hibiscus like roses but that's what you get with a rose - the old red blooms from the rootstock.
