Bought some Beer's black, any issues on growing beyond a standard one? I hear they have a unique taste.

Beer's Black is genetically identical to Violette de Bordeaux. Enjoy!

I grow both Beer's Black and VdB in the ground. I am now 100% sure that they are not the same fig. The leaves are completely different on a Beer's Black than on a VdB. Both trees want to grow in an open/upright pattern. And both trees will sucker very easily. Taste wise they are very close. It is quite possible that one is a bud sport of the other.

Enjoy your new fig tree that will one day produce absolutely delicious fruit for you. The flavor profile of either a VdB, Negronne, or Beer's Black is really hard to beat.
