My new best friend: P. cortusoides

northspruce(z3a MB CDA)June 6, 2009

I just want to rave about how much I love Primula cortusoides. Thanks Pudge & Sharon for recommending them (and probably sending me the seeds, though I can't remember). They are so bright and healthy-looking in my shade garden, and I'm going to be collecting more seeds to hopefully make a carpet of them.

I think they're my favourite perennial this year.

This is one of my favourite plants! It was recommended by a member of our garden club and I just love it. Right now it is blooming nearby an ornamental crab with the same color flowers and it looks just spectacular. I would recommend this plant to anyone!

They look good, Gil. They'll self-sow, too.

Those are so cute... very bright and cheerful for a shady spot... would love to try and grow some of those...

I need some too! Gil is going to save seeds this year, isn't she? :)

Of course I will! I have a few spare seeds but they are from 2005 so I will see if I can germinate them myself and collect new seeds for friends.

Primula aricula is one of my favourite perennials. Love the succulent like leaves.

P. auricula is not *quite* hardy here. There was one planted by the previous owners when I moved here 3 years ago, and it never had more than 3 leaves although it did manage to bloom last spring. This spring it was completely gone. I like them too though, even as an indoor pot plant.
