This is growing in my backyard. I have no idea what it is, any thoughts.

Oh no, how did that get there. Definitely can't leave that there. Thank you Pudge.

LOL I had one turn up in a garden once. It's now a really good size, but in a different spot, of course. I know people don't like them but i don't have trees like that in my yard - just ugly cedars and jackpines - so i planted it on the edge of a bed. Maybe some year i'll regret it, but right now i still like it. :)

Why don't people like them? I was thinking of just moving it but should I get rid of it?

I pull about 20 MMs out of my yard every day! They grow very fast and I have no problem with the trees but they pop up everywhere and in the most inopportune places! In one season they can reach 3-4 feet and I can't give them away!

I think people consider them weedy trees. To me, the poplars are weedier - i'm always trying to get them out of some beds!

They're really weedy and often unattractive in growth habit but that's in the eye of the beholder. I'm allergic to their pollen which makes me hate them. Each tree is either male or female so with the male you get the pollen, and with the female you get millions of weedy offspring. Can't win.

The only worse tree that I have encountered was the Siberian Elm. In stressed years they make literally millions of seeds and they can fly a long way if it's windy.

I haven't noticed any offspring yet, though it does have seeds (helicopters? - wth do you call those things? A mind is a terrible thing to lose...).

Yep, keys or helicopters. Or the devils's spawn. ;)
