Replanting Blue Spruce

garydgOctober 22, 2006

This tree goes somewhat dormant over winter here in western Oregon. Unfortunatly that is precisely the time when the soil is wet/muddy making it more difficult to transplant.

What's your thinking on when I could transplant? I have about 20 trees each averaging 2 feet that need to be moved.

I believe this could be done now assuming most of the rootmass and adjacent soil is left intact.

Thanks

I think it should be just fine to transplant them now. I don't recommend transplanting conifers in the fall here in the Northeast where the winter winds can be severe with temperatures zero or below, but you get nothing close to that where you are. And its my experience that blue spruce transplant well--I have never lost a single one, bareroot or balled.
