Happy 4th of July!!!

rafedJuly 3, 2010

I came to this country on May 25th, 1975

Born in Iraq on June 11, 1967 I moved with my family to Lebanon in 1974 for 9 months before we came here.

I met my wife here and my children were all born here.

I became a U.S. citizen when I was 17 ( with my father )and have exersized my right/privilege to VOTE.

I would like to share with you one thought,

Despite the problems this country is facing ( jobs loss, homes loss, disaster, etc. ) it is the greatest country on Earth!

God bless you all my friends, May God bless the U.S.A and Canada and may God Bless and watch over the Brave men and women of the Armed Forces.

They are the reason why I am here living life without fear.

Enjoy your freedon my friends, Not too many Countries have it.

Rafed,

Thanks for letting us know these things. I'm thankful to be an American, as well and am so glad you are one.

Here's a quote that I read today that touched my heart. I think it's what America is supposed to be about. It's the definition of what we are supposed to be, IMO:

Justice and power must be brought together, so that whatever is just may be powerful and whatever is powerful, may be just.

Thanks, Rafed. Your status as a 'transplant' gives you a unique perspective and appreciation for what we have here. And I do think sometimes that we take our freedoms for granted, and don't exercise our rights, or appreciate the bounty of this country!
Happy 4th of July!

Amen Rafed....

I too am proud to be an American and I'm even prouder to be a Cajun. July 4th marks the official opening of fig season in South Louisiana (no joke). Happy fourth (and fig season) to all.
