Shallow rooted shrub or small tree, full sun

Hi All,

The Japanese Fern Tree that I wanted so much is not thriving. A live oak was in that spot several years ago before a storm cut it in half. We had someone come in and mulch the roots as far as they could. There are still roots. I'm sure that is the issue. Can you recommend something that won't get huge that has a shallow root system? Thanks

Lonchocarpus violaceus

Mine is full of seeds if you want to start from scratch. These are readily available from several Palm Beach County nurseries.

Thanks Ricky, I don't have the patience or the skill. I've never been good with seeds. I think it goes back to that patience thing. Nice plant though.
