Caladium rooted in the vase

kaali_maaliAugust 20, 2009

My 1 & 1/2 yr old daughter pulled Caladium plant and three leaves two big and one curled leaves came off. I put it in my vase and put it on my south facing kitchen window. When the leaves wilted and was about to trash them I found it has developed roots! What should I do now... in August in zone 5... anybody has any idea?

Plant it and see what it does--nothing ventured nothing gained

You can try potting it up and growing it as a houseplant, but they do have a natural dormancy period so I don't know how it will react to winter light levels. If it had more time it would make a bulb/tuber which you could lift and save for next spring. The original plant should have a tuber too if you want to find and preserve that.
