When to give up

louky(6b)August 8, 2014

I lost all three of my figs to the extreme winter. All three were in protected areas next to walls but I didn't do anything extra to them. All about 5 years old. I pruned them back about 2 months ago. The Celeste and Chicago Hardy have come back and look very healthy. The Brown Turkey did not come back, but just yesterday I was looking at it closely and noticed a lot of green on the exposed roots. When should I give up on this, and is there anything I can do to jog some growth? Thanks

Have had fig plants in pots wake up as late as mid August.
As a note kept just enough water so soil mixture did not completely dry out as when not actively in leaf the water uptake is minimal .

Yes like Martin says, my on tree just started leafing out a couple days ago after a root prune in the spring.
