Ardisia crenata variegata?

Nigella(9a-steamy)February 16, 2004

This is a plant that I bought locally, I wish I knew more about it. It's an ardisia, and I believe it to be a cultivar or selection of A. crenata but I'm lost after that. There was some discussion on the Name that Plant forum for a while after I posted it there but nobody had a name. If you recognize it would you please email me? I'd love to know what to call it. Anyway, even if you don't know what it is, I thought you'd like to see it, it's very striking.

Hi Graeme, apparently there have been some sites that refer to these two as synonomous with one another. What I have found, however, is that A. crispa has a more untidy growth habit, a creeping shrub, rather than the upright, almost bonsai-like habit of A. crenata(syn. A. crenulata). Here's a picture that was IDed as A. crispa.
