Persian Shield flowers

kcirone(5b-6a)July 13, 2013

Hi there,

I picked up a Persian Shield (Strobilanthes dyerianus) at an end of season sale yesterday. I've got it in a container and I'm really excited to have it! I've been reading up on its care, and I understand that it flowers in Winter. But mine clearly has lots of long flowers at it's the middle of July. Should I remove the long flowers now? I'm really new to garden plants.

Thanks!

I wouldn't remove them. They are a fairly rare novelty outside of the range of where this plant is hardy. This is my favorite purple plant, glad you're excited too!
