Planting Melons

I finished adding compost to an area then mulch on an area of my backyard, next I will open space in the mulch and plant the melons will this be ok?

I took a bunch of soil horse manuer and old hay from my horse pasture and made big mounds and planted my melons around the sides they ate doin great.
