Hyperion mutant

eebalcos(7B)June 22, 2014

I incorporated a couple of new Hyperion daylilies last year.
This plant produced a flower that is almost double it's normal amount of petals and anthers. Has anyone ever seen this happen to a daylily...? It's still extremely fragrant.

Would love to see that in real life. Does your plant have more buds to open?

I've got the old Hyperion from an elderly now deceased next door neighbor whose father planted them in her yard in the 1930's. About my favorite - for the sentiment as well as for the "terrific-ness" of the plant itself.
Lovely fragrance.

It is called poly tepalling . Poly's are not that unusual in daylilies . Some people grow certain plants because they are known for doing just what your plant has done.
