Juvenile fig leaves?

jmoore3274November 27, 2012

I picked up my first fig tree about 2 months ago. It was looking pretty sad and it was on its way to dormancy. I brought it home put it in a 10 gallon pot and under a 600W metal halide lamp to try to keep it from going dormant. It has not lost its leaves and it has what looks like budding sites but is not growing.

I figured its roots have to do its thing and when the plant is ready it will start to leaf out. There is what looks to be growth coming from the root system but I can not tell if its a weed or a tree. Does any one have any examples or juvenile fig leaves? The type of fig I have is a Peters Honey Fig.

I would like to be able to compare the leaves to a picture of some sorts. I can take a picture of this growth coming from the soil if needed.

If you could take a picture I could tell you. If it is a weed you should be able to easily pull it out.
