Planting Schedule

Glo407November 8, 2013

Our new neighborhood garden is located in Southern New Jersey. Our lot is sort of a rectangle of about 25 ft x 59 ft long x 47 ft. Where can we get a calendar which shows the correct time to plant & harvest vegetables in our area? We're planning on greens, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes (possibly blue berries). Perhaps someone already has this information and would like to share. Maybe make a suggestion as to what else we should or could (as beginners) grow. All advice is welcome.

Google it. Your local University should have a good website and your local agricultural center should have an agent, master gardeners and pamphlets to help you. You can google Gardening Calendar for your zone or county. Not sure where you are, but in the 80's we used to go to Tuckerton to go fishing in the bay every summer weekend, when we lived in Burlington county.

Johnny's has great interactive charts. You just need the average last frost date.

Here is a link that might be useful: interactive pages

Zackey is right. Rutgers University has good advice on the web. the local master gardeners, extension agents, and garden shops are great in NJ. Precise location is important. Gardening is much different in N Jersey than it is in the middle or south. And distance from the coast is important.

You hit the jackpot! They don't call NJ the Garden State for nothing. Nearly everything grows well there. I lived and gardened there only one year when I was in the Army, but what a magnificent place! From late June to Halloween, I forgot what a grocery store was.
