Fushia...seeds or runners

lifenfamilyJuly 12, 2011

I have an upright Fushia that was here when I moved here and being I'm from California...I don't have much experience with Fushias. Here is my question...This year my upright fushia has babies coming up next to it. They are not coming up in a good place and I would like to dig them up and transplant them but I need to know how easy this would be? Are they babies off runners or seed? If off runners, am I going to kill them when I dig them up? Help...I need advice...

Fuchsia grow from a crown so your 'runners' are just new stems which radiate from the crown. Carefully dig around the base of the plant to expose the new growth, clip them off and replant. They may droop and drop leaves but will soon rebound with new growth. Use a good time-release fertiizer and keep the soil moist; not soggy.

If they are not attached to the main plant; then they are seedlings and can be transplanted easily.
