I put up a Martin house not so much to get birds but more of a "sculpture" So far I've got a swarm of honeybees
got rid of them ,got a colony of paper wasps latest use is a lookout point for a hawk lol for some odd reason no birds have moved in lol he does maintain order at the feeder !!
You seem to be having MUCH better luck lol gary
I've had a screech owl box up for 3 years. Squirrels... all I've had are squirrels.
Congrats on getting the birds you wanted so quickly!
Sad news today. Saturday night my family and I got home and as we were ascending the steps, I heard a familiar 'click click click' that was recently directed at me while I was taking the last set of pics and Tomas caught me. So after unlocking the door, I went out to see what had Tomas and Abigail in a tissy. I was unable to find anything around the box. I wanted to check IN the box, but with the parents already agitated, I decided not to.
My back was acting up the next day, so I did not get out much, but the times I did, I did not see Tomas or Abigail visiting the box. So this morning when I took the dogs out, I watched the box and still didn't see mom and dad visiting. After putting the dogs up, I went back out and opened the box. Nothing. No feathers or anything. I checked the ground around the box and still did not find anything. The complete lack of any 'remains' or signs of a struggle have me thinking a snake may have managed to get in, but it also may have been one of the rats I have been battling, though I can find no claw marks or tufts of hair on the box. A baffle was already on my list to add to the mount pole, but as this thread originally stated, I had not expected it to become occupied so quickly and did not have it in place, nor did I want to install it while the pair was active for fear of scaring them off.
Next time they will be more protected.
