Lime tree (not citrus).

Phlox(Z9/Sunset14CA)April 8, 2005

Does anyone know the botanical name for the European street tree called "Lime Tree"? I Googled it and came up with Lime Basswood (Tilia cordata), but the one I remember had long racemes of white flowers and was very fragrant--very similar to a black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia).

The only tree I have known as "lime tree" has been Tilia cordata. The fresh, sweet, lingering aroma of this tree is certainly one of my favorite summer fragrances. I look forward to it every year.
