tree ID

marcia_m(5 and 9)April 21, 2013

I've been curious about this tree all winter. It is in the parking lot at the North Port Walmart (Sarasota County). It was bare all winter and is now getting leaves. Its stems seemed flat and wide. I don't have a photo of the whole tree but brought home a couple of pieces to photograph. When I tried to break a stem off, all the flat bark slipped off the stem, so I cut another piece too. I didn't think to pay attention to the trunk & bark. Maybe next time I'm there.

Any guesses?
Marcia
