Volunteer Cherry tree

frankielynnsie(7B)January 9, 2012

I cleaned out an area of Japanese Privet and discovered a 6 foot cherry tree. I have 1 autumn blooming and 3 Yoshino trees in the yard. It has a great shape. Do you think it could be moved with out killing it? it is in an area I am going to start mowing to keep the privets away. How big will it be before it starts to bloom? I know it is a seedling of who knows what, because the autumn blooming cherry is a hybrid and the closest to it. Has anyone had any experience with seedlings from flowering cherries?

I can answer at least part of you question. Yes, you should be able to move the tree successfully if you follow the guidelines in the two links below.

Thank you, during the next warm-up I will try to dig her up and move her to a new/better location.
