Fruit tree pruning question

doeslayrFebruary 18, 2009

I have some 2-3yr old Yates Apple trees that need some pruning. I've taken pics of them to get some tips on what exactly needs pruning b/c they don't have the shapes that I'm seeing in the pruning manuals. Instead of seeing obvious scaffolding branches, I'm seeing several branches going upward at near vertical angles. I know this will lead to splits in the tree in later years.

Would any of you be able to tell me what to prune?

Thanks so much!

Looks like you got some good advice from the site where the pics were. Branch spreading will help. Here's your tree in the upright position.
