Has anyone in the Cobb county area tried growing beets? What variety did you plant and in what conditions? Also, has anyone had success with Brussel sprouts?
Personally, I like Early Wonder beets. I am in the city, but honestly it's the same difference in location. Early Wonder seem to bulb better but are smaller, and don't get tough for me.
I have grown brussels sprouts in our church garden, planted in the fall and let to grow all winter, successfully. We've not tried them in the spring.
I've never had good luck with beets. I'm going to try the Early Wonder. Thanks GGG.
I've been growing beets for seversal years in the spring in my small garden in Decatur. I've grown cylindra and the detroit red. They both did fine, but I prefer the bigger root of the detroit red. My key learning is the soil can't be too acidic. It needs to nearly nuestral 6.5 to 7. and as you'll read this online, is that the beet seeds contain seveal seeds so you have to go back in and thin the beets out or you won't have much of a root. The greens are good as well.
