fragrant plant for heat

ebang(Sunset 17)July 11, 2008

I have a strip of garden between my sunroom and a path, that is also near the house. This area gets ROASTED in the summer, as my poor gardenias found out :(. What are some good, fragrant plant that can take that kind of reflected heat and very sunny exposure? The area gets decent water from the irrigation system.

BTW I'm in USDA 9-ish in CA

i can't grow plumeria outdoors where i live but perhaps could work for your spot. no personal experience with them but have been tempted to try one in a container. they say the fragrance is lovely, they like lots of sun and are hardy to 33 degrees.
there is a plumeria forum at gardenweb. might try asking there about growing these.

Why not try some herbs? Lavender, Rosemary, and Lemon Verbena
come to mind. Many herbs would be ideal for the hot, dry, sunny conditions.
