pickin' pumpkins

O.K. stupid question. I'm going to try to grow some Dill Atlantic Pumpkins this year and let's suppose for a minute that I'm fairly successful and I get a pumpkin or two that's hundreds(all right, I'll admit than I'm dreaming of 1000)of pounds. How do I pick it up? I see that they sell heavy duty tarps, but what do I do, buy the tarps now and stick them under the pumpkin when it's small? I bought 4 seeds on line and I'd hate to buy 4 separate tarps at $90 a pop.

Grow it then worry about picking it. When they are ready to pick you only need one tarp. Roll the pumpkin up. Scoot the tarp under one side. Go to the other side and pull the tarp under. You do not need a fancy tarp. A cheap 12' tarp folded over 3 times works excellent. Grow them Big.
