Help with desert theme

plants4meuc(Ga zone 7)April 15, 2009

My daughters school is doing an eco project this year. They will have rain barrels for the kids decorate to be placed around the school and Each grade has a small garden area and a theme. Her grades theme is desert. I started to look around and felt it might be limited. Then I thought I would come here to gardenweb because you guys usually have some great ideas. What can she use to help obtain desert theme here in georgia. The area will probably be no bigger then a 3x5

A yucca plant is native here but looks very desert like, I think.

How about opuntia - prickly pear cactus? You can find non-prickly pear (which is prickly, just not so much). Euphorbias such as "donkey Spurge" have a really great desert look to them too.
