Four O'clocks in their prime now

ncstockguy(Zone7 NC)September 14, 2007

Our Four O'clocks are really gorgeous now and very fragrant. We have red and white ones, the white really just started blooming in the last week or so, reds have been going strong since late June.

I may buy some more, see some are for sale on craigslist:

Nc, I bought a packet of 4 o'clock seeds about 7 yrs ago for .10..Since it was an experiment, I sowed seed, watered, then rain took care of the rest.
For some reason I assumed these lovely, sweet-smelling flowers as annuals, but was baffled when they popped up the following year..they're self-seeding. I didn't even mulch, and we live in IL. Flowers are orange, red and yellow. It's been 7 yrs now, and every summer more flowers pop up..Toni

I have 4 O'clocks that have no fragrance? Does anyone know why? They were pink, and pink & yellow mixed.

My pink ones are over 6 feet tall and if I don't deadhead every day will take over my yard. They are worth it though, because my DH works out of town and they are planted close to the drive. When he gets home at night he gets to smell them when he opens his door. Let's him know he is home. :o)

We've been growing Four O'Clocks a couple years now, our red and white ones are gorgeous this year. And nice subtle fragrance too. The hummers come and buzz around our red ones in the mornings and I have seen Luna moths, those amazing hummingbird-like moths in the evenings, some too. Neat flowers.
