Call for Leaves!

Hi Georgia Gardeners,

Do you grow hostas? Would you come to Tucker next Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning? Would you go out and cut your best leaves and enter them in the show?
Intrigued? Please go to for more details.

There'll also be the best hosta and other plant vendors there to help fuel your habit!

The Georgia Hosta Society show is one of the premier events in the Southeast for hosta lovers. I've had the date on my calendar for months.

For those of you who have seen or follow my garden progress on "A Once and Future Georgia Garden" on this part of the forum, I'll be using hosta in the back portion of the "lower yard".

Best Wishes--Carl

Do you have to know their names? I love hosta and collect them everywhere we go but I have no idea what their names are. I do have about 40 different kinds, shapes, colors sizes etc. I have never met a hosta I didn't like. :c)

Well, it certainly helps! If you come early enough on Friday afternoon there will be people around who could probably help with ID. Saturday morning is usually way too hectic. You do have to have the correct name for each leaf or plant in order to enter them in the competitive cut leaf and pot sections. However there is also a floral design section which will receive a people's award (ie will be voted on by the public). This year's theme is "Southern Sunrise" - lots of inspiration there! That can be anything from a formal flower arranger style piece to a simple vase filled with a rainbow of hosta leaves - whatever takes your fancy.
