Dichorisandra Royal

diane_v_44(Z6)August 19, 2008

I was at a Botanical garden up here in Canada

A plant labeled Dichorisandra Royal Queens Spiderwort caught my eye.

I was given a cutting by one of the attendants

But if it is a ginger not sure that it would be possible to grow, from a cutting

I do not usually post on the ginger forum but hope to have an opinion

I do have a home in Florida and do have some ginger growing there

Dichorisandras aren't gingers. They are related to the Wandering Jew (Spiderwort). The common name for Dichorisandra thrysifoila is "Blue Ginger" but its a misnomer.

As long as you were given a cutting with a leaf node, you should be able to root it.

I really would like for it to take Quite unusual at least to me

I know bihai you are a most knowledgeable gardener

I grow my Blue gingers in full sun
but they can also grow well in part sun
you'll get better growth and quicker flowering with more light/sun
