ginger /hedychium chrysoleucum question

Mistee17December 17, 2013

Hi - I bought 2 rhizomes of this ginger. Should I plant it outside? I am in zone 8 -Texas. Or ,should I plant it in a pot and store in the garage for winter? I don't ,want it to die in our freezing temps. we have been having.
Any advice, or tips would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you, Mistee

That particular hedychium is hardy to zone 7. It will die back to the ground in harsh winters (like the winter we are having this year) but resprout in the spring and bloom by mid to late summer.
