Moving a very large Gardenia to a pot

At our new home, we would like to move a large (5') gardenia that is in the ground to a large pot.

How can we do that successfully?

I'm no expert, but I have moved a few gardenias around. You can expect some leaf loss as I have found they don't appreciate having their roots disturbed. You could expect up to half the leaves turning yellow and falling off.

Some things that could help minimize the shock would be to trim it back a bit and to keep it in a shadier spot until it recovers.
