Long Shot ... Got Kiwi Pollen?

logrock(7b (NW of Atlanta))May 5, 2009

Hi all,

I have three hardy kiwis flowering right now, for the first time. However they are all female where one was supposed to be a male. We'd like to taste our own fruit this year.

We are near Dallas, GA. Is there anyone nearby who has a male kiwi (hardy or fuzzy does not matter) that I can "borrow" some pollen from? I can pay you back with some cuttings later maybe if you want.

I am having kiwi fever at the moment. Homedepot sold it out long time ago. Lowe does not have it. Pike nursery may have it, but they don't actually know male or femaile plant...

I need advice too: what kiwi should I get for Atlanta area?

logrock, if you haven't found anyone yet check with NAFEX, the North American Fruit Explorers group. There's a guy in my neighborhood on the board, and I think a few local folks also.

I just bought fuzzy female Vicent and fuzzy male Touri. As for hardy kiwi, I bought hardy male hardy, Issai, Ken's red and Meyer's Cordifolia

I am in the same boat, I have Vincent Female ready to bust open many a bloom. But I have no buds on the Male plant. Anyone have a few cuttings with male flowers that I might use to pollinate? near/north ish of Atlanta would be great... but will drive a ways to give this a try.
