Help Grocery store sugar cane rooted, now what?

wagner(canada)March 20, 2005

Bought a peice of sugar cane from local asian grocer, he told me to root it in 1 ft peices in water, it worked great.

Now what do I pot it? how much light? how big will it get, can I put it outside in the summer and bring it in to winter it? Im in zone 2, -45 in winter, hot dry 80 F in summer, any info would be helpful. Thanks

Congrats on rooting the sugar cane (Saccharum). I'm not sure how well the plant will do for you overall up there that far north. But you'll probably have good results outside during the summer. Don't let it dry out too much. It'll have to come inside for the winter. When it's inside keep it dryer but not bone dry, it will probably go somewhat dormant until it goes back outside in the spring.
