cut back Purple Fountain grass after dividing?

iris321(z5IA)April 13, 2006

I successfully overwintered my Pennisetum Rubrum.
I divided it & repotted. Seems tall & straggly. Would it hurt it to cut it back some. If not,how much should I trim.? Want to make it fit into coldframe better.TIA Iris

You should be able to cut it back to about 3-4 inches. About the same as you would for its more hardy pennisetum relatives.

Congratulations. I have never had any luck with this. How did you do it?
