Root shock or dying?

OKGirl80May 30, 2011

I posted a couple days ago about my new grasses get brown on the tips. It has progressed further. They've all been planted within the last two weeks. I planted zebra grass, a Miscanthus of some sort, PFG, Pennisetum Hameln, and Blue Fescue. All but the fescue are showing some browning. All receive full sun until late afternoon. We've had a lot of storms and rain recently in addition to the watering they got when planted. Am I just dealing with a case of shock from planting, too much water, or are they dying? If it's shock or water, how long before they start to look better? I'm attaching some pics for reference.

My answer hasn't changed since yesterday, but I have a question:

It looks like the PFG is planted through black plastic mulch film. Is it? If so, I'd cut out about a 3' circle around the grass. That mulch makes the soil way too hot in the sun.

Sorry Donn! I must've overlooked your answer from yesterday. I'll go check now.

It's not actually plastic. It's fabric, but I'm sure it will get very hot as well. I'll open the holes up a little. I ran out so the other two beds don't have any. May try them without any barrier to see how it goes.
