Weeds in my groundcover

slettvinJune 23, 2014

Hi all,
I just bought a new place and am working to create a garden. The previous owners planted a bed of myrtle that is well established but unfortunately it is full of weeds and long blades of grass.
I spent hours weeding it last weekend and it looks as bad as it did before I started.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I'd hate to pull it all out since the flowers are so pretty in the spring, but it really looks awful. ( see picture )

Thanks for your help!

There are herbicides that can kill the grass (looks like bermuda) without killing the myrtle.

Or, just keep pulling weeds and eventually you will get them.

Ortho's Grass-B-Gon is one. Fusilade is another.

Monterey Grass Getter is another. In fact I am currently using it for grass in my Phlox, and it actually works. Requires several treatments for complete control, is what I am finding. And, darned expensive.
