Unidentified squash from saved seed

southsunrockJuly 14, 2012

I saved the seed that produced these squash three years ago. I was happy that they were viable after being stored in less-than-ideal conditions, but I'm curious about the fruit they produced. The seed I saved was from a pie pumpkin or Ambercup I bought, though I'm sure this resulted from some sort of cross-pollination. My best guess is zucchini/pie pumpkin since both are C. pepo. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!

The photo shows them next to a butternut for comparison.

Squash are promiscuous. Unless you bag blossoms you can get all sorts of interesting crosses.
