my yellow squash question

cindy10989July 19, 2014

Ok so this is the first time we've tried growing squash. We thought we had planted regular yellow squash but one they grew they look like crooked neck squash. Now heres the thing...some ate more orange than yellow, they all have bumps, but we picked two today, and when we cut them up, the more orange one was hollow n moldy n the other one , the more yellow one, was fine. Why was it hollow?

Too old. Summer squash are used when immature before seeds form. The yellow crookneck is the most popular of the yellow summer squash, but it does get orangy and the flesh dries up as it ripens. Yellow squash can also be straightnecks, zucchini, or scallops.
