Pumpkin female flowers dying prematurely

acorn922August 20, 2011

Lots of female buds have appeared on the vines of my pumpkin plants, but they die before they're big enough to blossom. Why?

(The plants are nine weeks old.)

I'm having the same problem. The vine itself is growing like crazy and male flowers are fine. The female flowers develop a pumpkin and a flower but it never opens, just turns sickly. It is August in Virginia so it is hot. But the other day I saw another person with pumpkin vines in front of their house with several bright orange pumpkins. Is it lack of nutrients?

if they have bright orange pumpkins then they were pollinated month ago when it was cooler.
