Creating a dune theme... Using grasses. Zone 6/7

chestnutpatrick(7)August 3, 2009

Our swim club is looking to landscape our club using ornamental grasses.

We plan to paint a mural on a wall. Ocean theme. Waves. etc.

The existing shrubs have been removed. (Old yews) Create a dune theme landscape.

Use snow fence for a transition between mural and landscape and plant bed using grasses.

Which grasses would you include such that we do not obstruct the view of the mural, need a minimum amount of moisture/care, and appearance is maximized between memorial and labor day.

I am thinking (so far)

-Miscanthus

-Sea oats

-Fescue (does get ratty in august)

any other low growing grasses that can be planted in mass?

Am I missing anything?

Let me know what you would include.... Check the link below for a pic of our clubhouse.

Here is a link that might be useful:

Thanks for the reply Donn.

That blue dune is beautiful. We plan on using snow fencing and grasses to landscape the front of our swim club. Looks like I will be calling gary at perennial market this winter.

Thanks again,
PC
