Gettin down to the wire on my pumpkin patch!

sowngrow(TX8)September 23, 2007

I've got ONE pumpkin vine. It's about 10' long and no female blooms yet! Should I clip the end of the vine like I've read to do with gourds, to encourage female flowers? I'm running out of time here...

Thanks in advance.

My pumpkins are typically off the main vine not side branches. I don't believe you get any more female flowers by clipping the tip as you do with gourds. Just give it some fertilizer and hope it grows faster. Before you clip the tip, if you want to, examine it carfully to look for small pumpkins that may be hiding in the growing tip.
