Birdhouse gourds - only 1 per plant!

ShariIsobelOctober 10, 2013

My first time growing birdhouse gourds. Had lots of little gourds start on 3 plants but only one gourd on each plant has developed to any size. Many wither and die off. Why?

Birdhouse gourds flowers(white colored) open at night. That is the time that most insects are not working anymore. As far as I know only certain kinds of moths fly around at night. So, no moths, no gourds, UNLESS you do it yourself, i.e. hand pollinate.
