Green Spaghetti Squash

hwlee(South NY)November 18, 2008

Its a spaghetti squash green and white stripes. It has almost the same texture as the spaghetti squash. Just wondering if anyone else in the US has grown this squash. They average 6 pounds at maturity. The one in the photo is my biggest one this year. Maybe it can make the Guinness World Records.

These are delicious, but hard to find. My wife occasionally finds these in a Chinese market in Seattle. Is there any place to buy seeds for these?

Years ago my family and I lived in the hills between Puebla and Veracruz, Mexico. We lived in a high, cool rainforest environment. This squash practically grew wild there, though local folk did eat them. It's called Chilacoyote, and is a VERY RAMPANT grower.

In the sierra I've seen them at 30 lb.

I noticed that one can find seed on EBay.

Tahlequah, OK

Here is a link that might be useful: Chilacoyote in Wikipedia
