Halloween pumpkin

sunflower_gal(Las Vegas - 8)November 30, 2013

I bought a halloween pumpkin and we were right in the middle of moving, so I didn't get to cut it until about a week ago. I only bought it so I could roast the seeds anyway. So, I cut it open and many of the seeds had germinated!! I'd never seen that before. Can I plant them to grow pumpkins next year?

Yes, you can. However, the ones that have germinated might be too fragile to survive a transplant now. If there are any seeds which have not sprouted, make sure the are dry and set them aside until spring to plant then. You could try planting some now to see what happens, a little experiment.

Every fall I let my pumpkins decompose in the garden, and in the spring there are hundreds of pumpkin plants. I let one live to give me a few pumpkins.
