What is this grass/weed called?

alabamatreehugger(8)April 9, 2010

I have this light green grass that is taking over my centipede lawn. I spend hours every year pulling it up but it's impossible to get all of it. It doesn't seem picky about where it grows, semi-wooded areas, lawns, it doesn't matter. It emerges much sooner than crabgrass and has little white seeds.

Looks like St. Augustine grass to me.

Hope someone lets us know as it likes my St. Augustine lawn and as you say it likes to pop up anywhere.

I thought that it was crab grass, but I guess not. Why don't you post this over on the Weeds Forum?

probably poa annua (annual bluegrass). Even tiny plants will produce seed.

Or could it be goosegrass? Check out Randy Lemmon's Gardenline website:

Take a sample of it to your local county extension service office. If they don't know they can send it to the university for ID.
