Wisteria Vine Tree

Misscole85(9)October 5, 2013

I'm wanting to take a Wisteria Vine and do a tree out of it. I've read all you have to do is steak it and keep the bottom portion clear. Is it really that simple or is there more to it than that. I know it's a LOT of pruning, but I really was expecting it to be more complex.

Also any tips are greatly appreciated.

It's pretty easy. My Mom did hers by winding the vines around themselves at the top for the first couple years, trimming very little. Then start shaping gradually as your sense of aesthetics dictates. After the first year, it should be hard/woody and not need the stake.
