Question for those Mountain gardeners

rjingaDecember 28, 2008

I'm trying to find out what varieties of strawberries will do well at 2500 ft. Suches, GA

Any ideas? I believe that it is considered zone 5, but my googling research says that the winters are mild allowing for year round gardening.

Suches, GA is in USDA Hardiness Zone 7, as is most of N GA.
I gave up growing strawberries years ago, when one of the neighbor's kids considered it his private garden for berries every morning to eat with cereal. He would pick every ripe one on the vines and since there were 7 kids in the household, I'm sure none were wasted!

Here's a link for the NCSU Extension Service that has a number of recommended varieties that should do well in your location.
