Melons/Pumpkins Planted within Evergreens and Shrubs?

love2weed(Zn6)June 11, 2005

We just finished an island in our yard that contains evergreens and shrubs. The plants are very small and there is plenty of space for melons/pumpkins to meander through. The soil is covered with dark hardwood mulch. Would this work? There is plenty of sun all day.
